"Out of your vulnerabilities comes your strength"
~ Sigmund Freud ~
At the heart of my approach to therapy is the belief that when challenges and emotions are understood and worked through, they can become powerful sources of insight, growth and transformation. The therapy services I offer are designed to help you, your child or your family explore the difficulties you face and embrace their vulnerabilities, transforming them into connection, strength and resilience.

I offer therapy sessions both online and in person at the Bryanwood Therapy & Assessment Centre in Bryanston. Online sessions, whilst convenient and more accessible, may not be suited to all persons and types of concerns, and will be discussed with you at the time of your therapy request or during the first session. Therapy sessions are typically just over 50 minutes long, and the number of sessions and frequency at which we meet will depend on your challenges and goals. This will be discussed with you during our first session.

CHILD PLAY THERAPY
Children are in the process of developing the complex cognitive and language abilities to express what they are experiencing. This makes play a child's natural mode of self-expression, and can be used therapeutically to help them communicate, process and work through unexpressed complicated feelings, thoughts, behaviours, memories and events in a way that feels natural and accessible to them. Play therapy can help address the negative impact that unresolved emotions or experiences have on children’s behaviour, academic performance, and social relationships at their own level and pace; promoting emotional regulation, growth, connectedness and resilience.

PARENTAL GUIDANCE
Parenting can be one of the most rewarding yet challenging experiences. In today’s world, where parenting decisions are frequently judged, many parents may feel hesitant to seek help, fearing it might be seen as a reflection of "bad" parenting. The truth is, parenting is not always instinctual or effortless—it is a big responsibility that requires ongoing learning and adaptability, and nothing can truly prepare a parent for the unwavering commitment and complexity that comes with raising a child. Seeking support when overwhelmed, stressed or concerned is insightful and an act of courage and strength, as it's about prioritizing both your well-being and your child’s.

Parental Guidance Counselling offers a safe, supportive space for caregivers to explore and navigate the complexities of parenting. Whether you’re facing day-to-day challenges or specific concerns, tailored support is provided to help strengthen your relationship with your child. The focus is to empower caregivers with the necessary skills and tools to better understand their child’s needs, feelings and viewpoints, communicate effectively, reduce conflict, enhance parenting skills, and build a more positive and deeper bond with your children.

Through parental guidance counselling, caregivers gain valuable skills in:
-
Active listening and affirming your child's emotions
-
Setting healthy boundaries and fostering a respectful home environment
-
Understanding family dynamics and communication styles
-
Navigating relationship-building through different developmental stages
-
Understanding age-appropriate expectations and capabilities

FAMILY THERAPY

2025 Rate: R1600 per 51 minutes
Being part of a family is one of the most significant and influential aspects of our lives, yet it’s common for family members to experience conflicts with one another. Sometimes these problems can lead to strained relationships with challenging, frustrating and painful interactions, which can make it difficult to find common ground and work through issues together.
Family Therapy provides a supportive space to address these difficulties and accept one another better by helping family members understand each other’s perspectives and experiences, explore roles and responsibilities within the family, understand family member's different communication styles and communicate more effectively together, and work collaboratively towards resolving conflicts, gaining trust, setting healthy boundaries, and rebuilding stronger, healthier relationships.

Family therapy can involve the entire family or focus on specific members, depending on the needs. The therapeutic environment offers each family member the equal opportunity to openly express their thoughts, emotions and concerns, ensuring that everyone’s voice is heard and valued.
THERAPY
Every individual has different needs, and areas of strength and challenge. Understanding a child's unique abilities and difficulties, and how they learn and navigate problem-solving, are important for effective learning and ensuring that they receive the appropriate support and accommodations for academic and personal success. Psychological Assessment is one effective way to gain valuable insight into these areas, and supports parents to make informed decisions about their child's educational and emotional needs, assisting your child to reach their full potential.

I provide Psychoeducational Assessments and Concession Assessments for children in Primary School and High School, as well as for University Students.

These assessments involve a one-on-one process, and uses a variety of standardised tools to develop a complete perspective of your child’s cognitive abilities, academic skills, neuropsychological abilities, and social and emotional functioning. Additional ADHD screening may also be requested. The types of psychometric tests used in the assessment are also guided by GDE, IEB and University requirements.

A psychological assessment can help identify:
-
Your child's areas of strength
-
